Texturing

Using Adobe Substance 3D Designer

During the studio for Oneiric House, we found ourselves relying more on rendered visualizations amidst COVID. One of the most challenging things to convey with this was an accurate sense of materiality and light.

The stock textures of common rendering solutions made it difficult to stay true to a design vision, and as such I took up Substance Designer and Alchemist to represent more specific ideas for material.

This parametric texture generator allowed for unique material maps to be generated for each portion of the design, and applied to a wide variety of base geometries.

The video above shows the progressive steps taken to generate the base geometry of the material, as well as the accompanying texture maps. The final material was rendered in 3dsMax and Corona Renderer.
